Programs and Services our agency offers youth in the community
- Outreach services: Our staff conduct direct street outreach focused mostly in Greenfield, Turners Falls, Orange, Athol, Northampton and Amherst (they can also meet with/help any youth in Franklin or Hampshire county) by walking the streets, checking the parks and visiting other service agencies. The outreach teem provides snacks, clothing, harm reduction supplies, safer sex supplies, hygiene products, bus passes, survival gear when needed and other basic needs supplies. The outreach team also provides information about other DIAL/SELF services as well as other agencies, such as local shelters, community meals, DTA, Crisis Services etc… They can help youth navigate these agencies, as well as our own, and the paper work requirements if needed. They can also be contacted to meet young people by appointment if needed at 413-774-7054 x7.
- Housing: (most housing options require some level of case management)
- Emergency and Short Term Housing: Depending on the young person’s age and situation options may include, staying up to a couple of weeks at a DIAL/SELF location called the night owl, working with a friend or family member, connecting them with a partner agency that offers options around housing and if funds are available the possibility of a one-time housing subsidy.
If their current housing is at risk, staff can look at possible options to help stabilize their situation so it can be a safe and secure place for them without having to move out.
- Long Term Housing (defined as 6 months or more): DIAL/SELF has multiple properties that that have a rental subsidies attached, and works with property owners in the community to house young people ages 18-24, as tenants. These programs offer varying levels of support and programming depending on the young person’s individual needs. Depending on a young person’s individual circumstances and situation DIAL/SELF may be able to help a young person with initial move-in costs and help to subsidize the rent while the young person works to obtain the income needed to support their housing themselves.
- AmeriCorps coordinates the services of 30+ full-time AmeriCorps members to enhance the efforts of other youth serving agencies in the Franklin/Hampshire/Hampden/North Quabbin area.
